Hallways are often neglected in the home because people usually just pass through them and don't stay in them. But if you want a home that really represents who you are and really feels good to look at and stay in, you want to make sure that all parts of the home are well planned, even areas that you don't usually use. Hallways can be used to create a positive impression about your apartment.
Hallways and stairs present great opportunities for you to play with design in your home. They may not be the highlight of your apartment but this does not mean that you should completely ignore them and not take the time to make them as beautiful and functional as the rest of your home.
Use your hallway to create positive impact. You can display valuable art or simple portraits in your hallway. With ambient lighting and the right wall color you can make a fantastic gallery out your hallway. You don't have to place an expensive painting on the wall. Maps, photos and other interesting prints can look great when framed. Just look for interesting art work that will enhance the whole look of your home.
If you have a very narrow hallway and cannot place artwork on the walls, you can choose to paint the walls a welcoming color.
You can also choose to put some appropriate storage in the hallway so that you can really maximize the use of available spaces in your home. Apartments can really be expensive so it is important to get maximum use of space. Aside from hallways, the stairs or the space under the stairs can be used as storage space.
If the space will allow it, place a small table or stool in the hallway. You can make that table as the focus point of the room. You can place the table by a window or in the middle of the hallway, depending on how wide the hallway is. You can place hard-bound books and other interesting things on the table.
If you do not have the time or the patience to stress about your home décor, you can choose to move into a fully-furnished apartment.
